THE BASICS

I’m Joao Prates, a 28 years old videographer based in Switzerland.

i’ve been creating videos for around 11 years now and have been able to be a full

time film-maker for the last 3 years.

Since the beginning of 2023 I joined the Artaban Tv team as a 1st AC.

Mostly inspired by analog, movement and sound.

MY STORY

Everything started around 2014 when a friend of my gifted

me my first analog camera as well as an old Canon 600D.

The passion for analog persisted for a few years before the

video really started.

Right until 2017 my work was very photography based but

it helped figuring out composition and exposure.

Around 2017 video became a bigger part of my life.

BMX being my sport of choice since 3 to 4 years prier,

extreme sports and movement were since the beginning a

big influence.

A year later, had the opportunity to collaborate with a

lifestyle magasine, “SavageThrills” with witch, I could

publish a few photography based articles, about skate, surf

and traveling… at the same time, my passion and motivations

for BMX continued, and had the pleasure to solo produce a few

projects that later were published in different world renown

websites, such as “DIG BMX” as well as some Downhill biking

projects.

In 2019 I moved to Neuchâtel, Switzerland and from there my work became very quickly Music based. Creating “ALABRI” an artist’s discovering and display media platform where we

produced tens of episodes and tens of live events.

During that time I progressed in the videoclip , live and documentary world, all around music production. Being able to working with artists as Hook, NTO, Xenia Manasseh, Dakota

Simao ( dancer ) and more .

In 2022 Had the opportunity to have two big projects back to back and decided to make the step and became officially a full time Videographer. For a year I developed my client list in

different areas as sports, music, dance, product,

education, etc,… and in the end of the year had the opportunity to join the Artaban TV crew as the 1st assistant camera witch gave me a huge upgrade on my studio skills, being luxury

products their specialty.

Since then I’ve balanced both sides of the Job as an independent artist and 1st AC for Artaban and now worked with a large variety of directors, producers, brands, etc,…

I still have a lot to learn, and for me, 11 years is only the beginning.
